Laurian Rauen (CEO & Founder)
Laurian Rauen, is CEO and Founder of Wings to New Horizons, a 501(c)(3) initially founded in 2000 as a life time sanctuary for the parrots of the world so they would not become extinct. The vision expanded to include a home for abandoned and/or rescued parrots, some requiring special needs care.
Born and raised in Chicago, Laurian graduated from the Automation Institute and moved to Orlando with her husband in 1967. Laurian and her husband purchased a farm in Oviedo, Florida in 1972 at which time Laurian began raising birds and a family. Becoming a widow in 1975, she expanded her career to become a professional AKC dog handler and served two apprenticeships under the top two handlers in the country at the time. She became an instructor at the Orlando Dog Training Club as well as Secretary for the Sunshine State Cage Bird Society. She also spent ten (10) seasons at the Winter Miles Training Center working with the Trotters and Pacers. Laurian established ERC Horizon Farms in early 1980s which offered personalized animal training and behavior modification for dogs AND birds.
Currently, Laurian is on the Board of Directors of the Oviedo-Winter Springs Chamber of Commerce having been a member for over seventeen years (17) as well as an active ambassador. She has been named Ambassador of the Year twice and Wings to New Horizon was named Not For Profit of the Year once.
It is Laurian’s dream to eventually build an avian hospital next to the sanctuary.
SANDRA R. TURNER, ERPA, CPC, QPA
Sandra Turner is the President and founder of Retirement Plan Services, Inc., a full service fee-based administration, actuarial and consulting firm for retirement. With over thirty years of experience, she is widely respected as an expert and leader in the pension field. Ms. Turner achieved the designation of Enrolled Retirement Plan Agent (ERPPA) given by the Internal Revenue Service in 2009 being 50th in the country to do so. This certification allows her to represent clients before the IRS. As a member of the American Society of Pension Professionals and Actuaries (ASPPA) Ms. Turner holds the designations Certified Pension Consultant (CPC) along with a Qualified Plan Administrator (QPA). Ms. Turner is on Leadership Council both State and Federal with the National Federation of Independent Business and Board Member of the Small Business Council of America. She holds membership in other civic and business organizations as well.
Ms. Turner has also worked extensively in Washington DC with an elite team of professionals fashioning the Pension Simplification Bill (passed in 1996) and the Economic Growth and Tax Relief Reconciliation Act signed by President Bush (June 7, 2001). She has testified before Congress on behalf of pension reform and represents small businesses in a number of national forums. In the 2009, Ms. Turner was invited by the Office of Advocacy of the SBA to participate in a national think tank on Small Business Pensions in Washington, DC. In 2015, Governor Rick Scott appoint Commissioner Turner to the Florida Commission on Human Relations for a two year term.
Ms. Turner holds a BA in Mathematics and Computer Science from Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton. She works in her spare time with the Dave Ramsey Financial Peace courses as a Certified Worksite Trainer and University Coordinator. She has a passion for helping others in need and even more passion for her business. For this reason, Ms. Turner recently became an affiliate to Give Back Nation, a 501(c)(3) dedicated to helping other not-for-profits increase their fundraising efforts.
BARBARA WATKINS, C.P.A.
For years, Barbara D. Watkins, CPA has been providing quality, personalized financial guidance to individuals and businesses.
Barbara Watkins is a local C.P.A. who has been in practice for over 30 years. She grew up in the Chicago area and graduated from Northern Illinois University with a degree in Accounting and Finance. Accounting was not a popular degree for women back then. In fact, when she started her career in Chicago, she was the first woman ever hired by a well-established CPA firm.
In 1982 while vacationing in Florida, she walked in off the street and was hired by the largest CPA firm in Orlando. She worked for that firm until 1990 before she went out on her own.
Barbara specializes in both Business and Individual taxes and Small Business Startups. Her mission is to find deductions and tax credits that others have missed. Thus she is called “The Diva of Deductions”. She is also Certified Advisor and trainer for both QuickBooks and Peachtree (Sage)software.
Barbara gives back to her community by sitting on the board of many charities and civic organizations. She also on the Board of Trustee’s for the City of Winter Springs. She also won the 2012 Wealth Manager Award.
Linda Wiggins is the proud owner of The Tack Shack in Oviedo, Florida, a family owned and operated store since June, 1988. Linda has five (5) beautiful children and four (4) grandchildren. Linda graduated from Oviedo High School in 1971 and was a Girl Scout leader for 12 years.
Linda Wiggins is the Founder and Vice President of a non-profit organization called Friends of Winter Miles which was named after a horse race track in Oviedo, Florida. When Winter Miles closed down, Linda and others started this organization to raise money to build a horse park for the community.
Linda Wiggins made history when she asked the City of Oviedo and Seminole County to purchase the property of Winter Miles together as a joint venture for a park. Today it is called Shane Kelly Park.
Linda Wiggins is a volunteer for The American Cancer Society. She started a Relay for Life the Equestrian Way in 2003, which is done on horseback. The Relay won the Gold Award in 2011 for raising the most money in the district and the Silver Award in 2012.
Linda continues to be involved in community actives throughout Oviedo, Geneva, and Chuluota.
Chris Sileo grew up in the environmentally rich Indian River County. Surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean and Indian River, Chris committed many years to preserving nature. He was an active volunteer at the Environmental Learning Center, where he cared for the wildlife (birds, manatees, and small animals) and maintained the marshes and mangrove forest. Chris moved to Central Florida in 2003, where he quickly resumed environmental efforts by volunteering with Eco-Action (cleaning up rivers and lakes) and local nurseries (planting trees and gardens for those in need). He also served on the Orange County Animal Classification Board as their Co-Chair.
He now lives in city of Oviedo with his beautiful wife and pets. He was one of 24 chosen for the Political Leadership Institute, and completed the Leadership Seminole program. Chris is a graduate from UCF with a degree in Political Science/Pre-Law. He has worked for the Seminole County Supervisor of Elections Office as the Voter Outreach Manager, the Florida House of Representatives, and numerous Fortune 500 Companies as a Marketing Manager. He has also successfully managed a judicial race and worked in the governmental/political field for local, state, and federal elected officials since 2006, serving the community however he can. He currently serves on numerous Boards and Committees throughout Central Florida.
In his free-time, Chris loves to travel and spend time with his wife, golf, skim-board, and work on their house and yard.
Melissa Lee Sileo
Melissa Lee Sileo was born in Winter Park Florida and grew up locally in Central Florida. After graduating from Lake Mary High School in 2003 and Rollins College in 2010 she developed a passion for her community and began working at the Oviedo Winter Springs Regional Chamber of Commerce as the Director of Programs and Marketing. She now resides in Oviedo Florida with her husband, three dogs, and three cats. Brought up with the knowledge of learning about environmental/governmental issues from her father Charles Lee, FL Audubon, she has continued her role by educating the community to learn about more about important issues that impact our local area. Melissa attended the Central Florida Political Leadership Institute in 2014 and continues to have a presence throughout the community by representing her chamber at multiple events. Melissa is a strong believer in the balance of life and spends her spare time playing a relaxing game of golf and practicing yoga.
